Titanium dioxide has terrific UV blocking abilities and is therefore widely used in sunscreen lotions.  You’ll see below how our Sonolator high pressure homogenizer systems can be used to simultaneously emulsify lotions while deagglomerating the titanium pigments very evenly throughout the mixture. Titanium pigments are also used in paints and coatings because they have great durability and opacity qualities, imparting both surface protection and brightness. Sonic’s Homogenization Equipment provides outstanding dispersion of those solids pigments so that the qualities you seek, such as brightness and surface coverage, are much better than through traditional mixing methods.

Emulsify Lotions While Deagglomerating Titanium Dioxide

The Sonolator Homogenizer is an efficient device that uses no moving parts or mechanical shear to disperse and emulsify fluids. In many instances factories treat the deagglomeration of powders such as titanium dioxide separately from any emulsification process that might take place downstream.  Some companies might use ball mills or bead mills to properly disperse and break apart solids particulates.  Then the pre-dispersed material is incorporated into a separate process to make some final mixture or emulsion.

Our homogenizing systems will take a premix where solids pigments are not fully dispersed and create a final emulsion with evenly distributed solids particles.  Additionally, our systems can be designed to take a hot oil phase with a cooler water phase along with solids powders pre-loaded into a third phase and instantly create an emulsion with adequately deagglomerated material at final temperature in the 40-45 C range. See our video of quick lab test of hot oil phase and cooler water phase.
